It is an important branch of dentistry that deals with the extensive diagnosis and management of teeth diseases, restoration with supporting structures and dentition rehabilitation according to individual needs.

All major aspects of Endodontics, Periodontics and Prosthodontics (both fixed and removable) are included in this dentistry branch.

There are 2 major categories for dental restoration: direct and indirect restoration.

There are also further classifications depending upon various criteria.

  • Direct restoration: Here a soft material is added into the prepared tooth. Before this material is set hard, the tooth is built up. The advantage of such a procedure is that it is a quick process and only limited energy is transferred to tooth, hence not damaging it. However, this method cannot be used when filling is larger.
  • Indirect restoration: This process refers to restoration process that occurs outside the mouth. A dental impression of the prepared tooth is required in this case. Veneers, inlays & on lays, crowns and bridges are the common forms of indirect restoration. This 2 visit procedure involves fabrication of indirect of tooth and permanent bonding with dental cement.

Fractured front tooth rebuild-up

Fractured front tooth is a very common phenomenon encountered when one falls, receive a blow or even bite a candy. When one faces such a situation, it becomes absolutely necessary to fix it up since it seriously affects his/her appearance.

Medically speaking too, one must not refrain from seeking assistance of a dentist. The ways of treatment depend on the damage severity. Dental filling or bonding, dental cap or crowns are some of the methods used in dealing with broken teeth.

  • Dental filling: This procedure is adopted when the tooth damage is silly and does not require numbing the tooth. Bonding procedure begins with etching the required the surface with a liquid to roughen it. This makes it easy for the surface to bind. This is followed by the application of adhesive material and then the bonding material. The bonding material is then molded in to required shape and then using UV rays, it is hardened.
  • Dental cap: This is done when the damage to the front tooth is large. Break off a large section of tooth, severe tooth decay are such situations. For doing this, the remaining part of the tooth is grinded away and then covered with a crown or a tooth shaped cap. This is to protect the tooth and to improve the appearance.
